The simple and most honest answer is that it depends. The truth is that there is no one size fits all when it comes to calcium and deposit removal. Tile can be "burned" or damaged just as easily with salt or kieserite as it can with glass bead. It is a true statement that the keserite is softer and is less likely to cause damage, but the use of kieserite (salt) does not remove the technician from the ability to cause damage.
The chart below is a general rule of thumb and can be used a good guide when trying to determine what media should be used on a certain surface type, but each surface and mineral deposit situation is different and may require a different media and/or method.
